Albany County

Love the snow? Bundle up, grab your snowshoes or skis, and hit the powder in these Albany County spaces: Washington Park, Capital Hills at Albany, Albany Pine Bush Preserve, Tawasentha Park, Thompson’s Lake State Park, Swinburne, Six Mile Waterworks, the Crossings of Colonie, Peebles Island, Five Rivers, Lincoln Park, and John Boyd Thacher State Park.

Fulton County

Enjoy cross country skiing or snowshoeing on public and private ski trails. Award-winning cross-country skiing can be found at Lapland Lake Nordic Vacation Center in Northville with 50km of trails and is owned and operated by former U.S. Olympian Olavi Hirvonen and his family.  Enjoy miles of groomed trails in the Rockwood State Forest on State Route 29, 9 miles West of Johnstown, or try any of the hiking trails for x-country skiing or snowshoeing. Great downhill skiing can be enjoyed at Royal Mountain Ski Center in Caroga Lake, with 13 trails ranging from easy to very difficult, three chairlifts, snowmaking, and a terrain park.  Lessons are also available for the skiing novice.

Rensselaer County

The Pine Ridge Cross Country Ski Center on Plank Road in Poestenkill provides miles of groomed trails, as does Grafton Lakes State Park that has miles of trails specifically marked for Cross Country skiing. In addition, Schodack Island State Park in the southwestern part of Rensselaer County has trails riverside , while in the eastern part of the county, Dyken Pond and Cherry Plain State Park provide trails, and also encourage the snow-shoeing crowd.

Saratoga County

Feel a part of history as you cross country ski in the Saratoga National Historical Park, site of the Turning Point of the American Revolution, in the Village of Stillwater on Route 32. There’s a 9 1/2 mile tour road as well as off-road flat and hilly surfaces to traverse. For a little country in the city, try the trails in the 2,100-acre Saratoga Spa State Park, just off Route 9/South Broadway in the City of Saratoga Springs.

Schenectady County

Maple Ski Ridge is just a short ride from the NYS Thruway, exit 25A. Thirty km of groomed, track-set trails on 500 acres of land in western Schenectady County make this a great family destination. The trails wind through woods, orchards and open fields, giving the skier a variety of terrain and beautiful panoramic views. Trials are rated from beginner to expert. Warming lodge, fireplace, refreshments and rentals are available.

Washington County
